I am currently reading "Talon of the Silver Hawk" Conclave of Shadows: Book One by Raymond E. Feist. It's a pretty good book so far.
Ive been reading all of Raymond E. Feist's books (I'm presently reading The serpentwar saga), and I've been loving them. Did you start at the first series or just started at conclave of shadows? If you haven't, I'd really suggest you read the series starting from the first series because they are all based on the same world and gives you an insight into how the characters had developed. The only one I would suggest you skip is The Riftwar Legacy because its not following the main story and is permanently incomplete due to some problems with copyright between the book and the game.
I'm currently waiting for the fifth book for that series, it was definitely another one I got hooked too. Really dark at times and I really got into the characters plight to the point I would cry.
Oh wow, I tried reading LotR after I read The Hobbit, thinking "Oh man, this is gonna be AWESOME!", but could not stand all that singing D: Never did finish even the first book :(
