xxCommunity Revival

Over the last seven years we've met a wide variety of interesting people and forged some great friendships in our community. We had our share of highs and lows, but no matter how turbulent the past was I think one thing everyone can agree on is that when things were going well, they were absolutely great. The comradery and unity we achieved in our prime led to many of our guildies referring to us as an online "family" which is a sentiment I think many of us still feel and want to recapture, even though we've grown apart in recent years.

When I (re)started this forum, I figured that a departure from the guild structure in favor of a more open community would be better so that we wouldn't put people off registering if they weren't an active member RAWR/Nerd Herd. I don't think I was entirely wrong in theory, but this wound up having an unexpected adverse effect in that the guild was our main unifying aspect and without it everyone gradually drifted off. I have several plans on how to fix this, but my primary concern right now is whether or not there's an actual need or interest in the community for a revival.

On one hand, I feel that the site may have run its course as our activity has severely plummeted over recent months and we seem unable to hold anyone's interest for a period longer than a few weeks at a time. However, I also feel that I may not have done enough to revive the community as I haven't been unable to aggressively push things in the right direction due to a lack of stable internet, and I feel that I owe it to everyone to try one last time to get things back to the way they should be.

What I need now is a show of support to let me know that people still care. Whether you were around right at the beginning when we established our roots in Gunbound, joined when we were at our strongest in Ragnarok Online, or if you simply joined the community somewhere along the way because you liked the people here and felt at home, we need your help more than ever before. Even if you don't have the time to actively participate in an online game, just posting a message once or twice a day would go a long way in helping us regain what we once had and give everyone here - myself included - the incentive needed to work harder in building something truly great again.

To show your support, just sign-in and post something. That's really all we need to get the ball rolling again and let us know that there's an actual purpose to our efforts - if you're stuck on what to post, just drop a random comment off in the General section or talk about whichever games you're playing, videos you're watching, music you're listening to and so on. If you'd really like to help out, it would be hugely appreciated if you could help us in reestablishing a guild by posting in this thread to let us know what you're currently into or are willing to get started on.

I really want to see the community succeed, but can't do it alone. Let's get together again and reclaim past glory, and take things in a direction better than we've ever seen before! :sparkle:

* Huge thanks to Allu for conducting the awesome survey and for keeping things going while I was stuck without internet, and to Zell for compiling an inspiring draft to be sent out to everyone!

August stats done! Analytics has an awesome comparison feature where you can see last month's stats against the current month's in the graph - though in this instance it's kind of a mixed blessing as it really highlights our most recent drop in activity. It wasn't unexpected as we've been repeating this cycle for months, but it's never any less disheartening and seems to be a little worse each time it hits.
  • An average of 18.7 people visited the site every day, down from last month's 21.
  • 17 new threads were created over August, seeing a second month of continued decline with 13 fewer threads being created than in July.
  • 121 posts were made, which is 42 less more than last month. Apparently the answer to everything except how to get people active again... An average of 3.9 posts appeared each day with the highest number being 23 on the 26th, and no posts at all appearing on the 9th, 13th, 14th, and 18th.

I wasn't entirely happy with the way stats were presented before but didn't have the time to update the format until now, so apologies for the delay if anyone missed seeing the info. Now that I have a structure I'm pleased with and the template done it shouldn't take me nearly as long to compile information, and hopefully everyone will like the new way they're presented.

Those of you who run your own website will probably recognize the styling from Google's Analytics, but I've made some changes and additions that I hope will make it easier to read such as arrow indicators for top stats/country placement and flags on region stats. I'm going to temporarily stop posting the yearly data chart as Analytics records only goes back to June, and I'm also holding back on IRC info as hourly data isn't that useful - Lexy's looking into a way of tracking how many lines/words are posted every day, so with any luck I'll be able to put together a nice chart soon showing how active the channel is.

Anyway, July was an interesting month as the Analytics stats looked great on the surface, though the high number of hits were almost entirely the doing of a few random images in the gallery that had somehow got high Google rankings and masked the fact that general activity on the forum was actually significantly down. We somehow managed to lose the momentum built up over the April/May/June period and returned to the numbers we had at the start of the year - I've removed the pictures causing the influx of traffic (cat kicking dog and epic lesbian boobs) so we should get a much more accurate reading in August.
  • An average of 21 people visited the site every day, slightly up from last month's 20.
  • 28 new threads were created over July, 15 down from June.
  • 163 posts were made, which is a staggering 333 less more than last month's 496. An average of 5.2 posts appeared each day with the highest number being 20 on the 4th, and no posts at all appearing on the 11th, 25th, 30th and 31st.
